What is Unified Messaging?
Business communications seem increasingly complex today - an executive might have several phone numbers, multiple email addresses, multiple voice-mail boxes, etc. Unified messaging is the way to bring the profusion of communications methods under control and keep employees productive, even away from the office.
In short, unified messaging unites voice mail and email. If a voicemail is received, it is possible to send a notification to the individual's email address, meaning that the individual can look in one place to see what inbound communication has occurred. Beyond sending a notification, many unified messaging tools, like Panasonic's KX-TVA Voice Mail systems, can even send the message itself as an audio file. The individual can play the message back on his/her computer, and either reply by email or place a call if necessary. Calling in to check voicemail and navigating tedious menus is a thing of the past with today's technology.
Some unified messaging systems also can convert inbound faxes into graphic email attachments, further keeping the busy road warrior or home worker in constant touch.
